BVSC add John Barata as Director of Operations and Assistant Coach.

Boston Victory Soccer Club is proud to announce the addition of Mr. John Barata as Director of Operations and Assistant Coach. With an extensive resume, John Barata will bring more experience to the staff at BVSC.

Background:

Coach John Barata completed his third season as the Head Coach for the OA Men’s Team 2011, which saw the Tigers win the Hockomock – Davenport Division Championship. In Coach Barata’ first year as coach in 2009, The Tigers compiled a 15-3-3 record overall and a 2nd place finish in the Hockomock League. A significant change from the 2 – 14 team he inherited prior to the 2009 season. In 2010 after losing 18 seniors the Tigers finished the season 5-8-6 and second in the Davenport Division of the Hockomock League. After upsetting Barnstable in the first round of the MIAA playoffs, they lost a tight game to No. 6 seeded Weymouth.

John has served as the Director of Coach and Player Development for Easton Soccer where he has been responsible for the overall direction of the youth club. John is also an instructor for Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association and a coach for the Olympic Development Program. He is a superb soccer clinician and has many years’ experience in playing and coaching the game at top levels

As a player, Coach Barata graduated from Assumption College in Worcester, MA where he was the Captain of the Men’s Soccer Team from 1997-1999. He was an All-New England All-Star selection in 1999 and was a three time member of the NE-10 All-Conference Team. John received the highest athletic accolade from the college—The Premier Male Senior Student-Athlete Award—as well as defensive, offensive, and most valuable player of the year awards. John was recently inducted into the Immaculate High School “Hall of Fame” Class of 2009 and will be inducted into the Assumption College “Hall of Fame” in October 2011.

John currently holds the USSF “A” License, the NSCAA Premier Diploma, the USYS National Youth License and NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma. John has a wealth of coaching experience at the youth, club and high school levels. He has trained professionally in both the United States and abroad. John trained briefly with the New England Revolution and Portuguese club, Benfica..

John has been the Youth Minister for Holy Cross Church in Easton, MA since 2008 and John was recently awarded the South Shore Stars “40 under Forty” award. He was also named the 2011 Star’s Rosemary Wahlberg Children’s Choice Award, which recognizes an individual who exhibits the most leadership and civic potential.

Coach Barata resides in Hanson, MA with his wife and two children. (Erin, Timothy, Elizabeth).
