Boston Victory suffered a 3-0 midweek defeat in Vermont and swapped places with their Voltage hosts at the foot of the PDL Northeast Division table.
The Victory (2-8-1) went behind early to the Voltage (2-8-2) as Bozidar Jelovac latched on to a perfect through ball from Etienne Boulanger and rounded keeper Vinny Papageorgiou to score.
On the half -hour mark the comeback challenge facing Boston increased as midfielder Ruben Resendes (pictured) was sent off for deliberate handball to prevent the hosts from doubling their lead. The red card was followed by Voltage skipper Liam Gilbert stepping up to bury the resulting penalty, sending the Victory keeper the wrong way from the spot.
With the extra man advantage, Vermont pressured the Boston goal after the break, totaling 19 shots, and scored an inevitable third goal through Ognjen Perucica.
The Victory return to Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday to host the Western Mass Pioneers at 7pm. The last time the team met in Ludlow, Boston enjoyed a man advantage for the second half after the Pioneers had a player sent of before the interval, but was unable to prevent a 1-0 defeat.
